South American Weather Update
The South American weather forecast is favorable for Brazil with ongoing near to above normal rainfall and lack of heat. Brazil is calling for a 20267 soybean harvest greater than 180 MMT’s. Weather conditions over the next 3-4 weeks will help determine how big it is. Argentina will be dry the next 8 days with extreme heat for another 1-2 days. Rain chance to return after January 10th, but they are uncertain of the forecast and should be closely followed. The Argentine 1st corn crop pollinated under favorable weather.
Corn Comments & Analysis
Corn failed to push above resistance near 450 New Years Eve which triggered increased profit taking. USDA Quarterly Grain Stocks reports will be released January 12th. Private estimates of 25/26 corn carryout are near 2,320 Mil Bu vs, USDA’s 2,029. Final US feed/residual estimates are closer at 5.925 Mil Bu vs. USDA’s 6,100. US export commitment is near 5,600 Mil Bu vs. 5,436 last year. But assuming a normal 2026 global weather with no risk, nearby corn futures could drop below 4.00. In the overnight electronic session the March corn is currently trading at 440 ¼ which is a ¼ of a cent lower. The trading range has been 442 ½ to 439.
