AgMaster Report – 03/19/2025
MAY WHT
May Wht extended its current rally to 45 cents (530-575) – off weather scares globally & a decrease in Russian Exports! Dryness in Kansas, Oklahoma & Texas as well as the Black Sea has added a weather premium to the mkt! Good-to-excellent crop ratings in Kansas dropped from 52-48% & the large short fund position is liquidating! Plus, cumulative export inspections are running 18 % over last year.
MAY BEANS
May Beans have rallied 30 cents in the last -5 days – as US Beans have become competitive with Brazil Beans in the World Mkt – as well, President Trump hinted at a possible meeting with China President Xi – that would address extending the Phase One Trade Deal! Finally, dryness in the US bean planting areas coupled with a predicted 3 million acre decrease in US planting have supported the mkt on breaks!
MAY CORN
May Corn has been range-bound for the month of March – supported by superlative export inspections running 30% over last year, a plummeting US Dollar, general dryness in 2/3 of the US corn planting areas & a competitive edge in the global mkts as US Corn is the cheapest anywhere! Headwinds are emanating from the Trump Tariffs! The mkt will be very sensitive to any weather issues this summer in the central US corn areas!
APRIL CAT
After breaking $17 (207 – 190), April cattle staged a remarkable recovery – closing higher 8 of the last 10 days en route to a $15 rally – just since the beginning of March – coming just a few dollars away from contract highs! The catalyst for this amazing surge includes an anticipation of the grilling season – the best demand period of the year, China’s new economic stimuli improving export potential & a strong cash market! As well, the technical outlook is very strong!
APRIL HOGS
April Hogs have been no slouch either – rallying $8 (80-88) since Mar 1 – aided by spiller-over support from April Cattle, a Chinese renewal of export registrations for US meat plants & the upcoming “best demand period of the year” when everyone starts pulling out their barbecues! As well, pork has natural economic advantage in the supermarket – adding to its demand!
