Corn futures settled higher, weather in certain states added support to the market along with export inspections. There is still assessment and beginning of clean up in the states that were ravaged by tornadoes. There was a good amount of snow that wasted no time in melting which will provide fresh moisture ahead of seeding. However, there is a second wave of a winter storm forecast to be in an almost on the same path as Sundays storm. The broad range central weather had a mix of rain/snow across the Great Lakes region while bllizzard conditions impacted parts of the eastern Dakotas and central MN. Export inspections at 65 Mil Bu, were in line with expectations, but were above 47 Mil Bu weekly average to reach the USDA forecast of 2,450 Bil Bu. US exports are still in a positive wheelhouse at the moment before Brazilian exports enter the market in mid/late April, weather depending. Mexico secured 13.5 Mil Bu, Japan 12.5 Mil, and Columbia 7 Mil. Brazil safrinha crop is 97% planted according to AgRural. US corn stocks are tight and we should see South American and US weather volatility. Low commodity prices and tariffs shape Northwestern Belt planting decisions with Planting Intentions released March 31st.
