Financials: March Bonds are currently 7 lower at 153’15, 10 Yr. Notes 5.5 lower at 124’14.0 and 5 Yr. Notes 4.5 lower at 116’13.5. Yesterday the Fed, as expected, raised rates by 25 basis points. In their comments it is perceived that 2018 will bring 3 rate hikes of 25 basis points. The reaction was rather tepid with Bonds and Notes first rallying then settling back to pre-announcement levels. I am once again looking to the Eurodollar market and will try buying the long Dec. 2018/short Dec. 2019 contracts at 16.5 points premium the Dec. 2018 (currently at 17.5). I am still willing to go short the 10 Yr. at 125’04.0.
Grains: March Corn is currently unchanged at 349’2, March Beans 5’0 lower at 985’4 and March Wheat fractionally higher at 417’0. Trends remain down, however I believe March Corn is near long-term support. If you are a multiple contract trader I suggest buying a minimal position in March Corn at current levels and add-on a break.
Cattle: Feb. LC met my short-term downside objective of trading below 117.75 putting in a weekly low of 117.625.and subsequently trading as high as 120.00. If you went long either take profits or use a break even stop. If the market trades above 119.00 raise your stop to 118.30.
Silver: Mar. Silver is currently 21 cents higher at 16.07. I remain long.
S&P’s: March S&P’s are currently 1.50 higher at 2670.50. I am on the sidelines.
Currencies: As of this writing the Mar. Euro is 29 higher at 1.19300, the Yen 10 lower at 0.89305, the Pound 20 higher at 1.3491 and the Dollar Index9.4 lower at 92.930. The currencies got a boost yesterday after somewhat dovish comments from the Fed concerning 2018 interest hikes for 2018 and the concern about the lack of sustaining inflation above the 2% level. I am willing to sell the Dollar Index in the 94.20 area. I am also willing to go short the Pound above 1.3620.
This will be my last “Report” for 2017, see you in 2018.
Happy Holidays!
Regards,
Marc
